Didim Altinkum
Altinkum in the Bodrum region is always a popular area, especially with families, and it’s not hard to understand why. Altinkum means golden sands and that’s exactly what you can expect from this coastal paradise. The clean soft sand is the perfect place to soak up the superb Turkish sun and watch the softly lapping waves of the beautiful Aegean Sea.
The sea is also the perfect place to go for a relaxing swim or enjoy a thrilling water activity due to the low wave level offering confidence to the youngest and least confident swimmers. As well as providing the perfect place for water sports and swimmers alike, the waters of Altinkum also hold a harbour that can offer many boat rides to local coves as well as ferries that venture further out to Bodrum Resort. But if the crystal clear Aegean isn’t enough for your tastes, a short ride on the local buses (called a dolmus) will take you to a water park where even more fun can be had in the water.
Altinkum has an active nightlife, with sea view restaurants and bars allowing visitors to lounge with a meal and drink under the stars, creating a fantastic atmosphere for all ages. Take a stroll around Dolphin square where most of the bars, restaurants and shops are located and you will still only be moments away from the beach. There are many markets and interesting shops offering everything from delicately handmade one of a kind pieces to low cost branded items, all of which will appeal to the shopper in anyone.
But if history is more your thing, Altinkum near Bodrum aims to please. A visit to the temples of Apollo and Athena are a must! The beautiful columns and fantastic ancient architecture are stunning and there’s an especially unique stone medusa head at the temple of Apollo that can’t be missed. Altinkum can also lay claim to two local ancient cities; Miletus and Priene. Miletus has a huge theatre that makes the most amazing backdrop for a photo, as does a part of the sacred way, incredible stone pillars that will dumbfound anyone and Priene is the location of the remains of the beautiful ancient temple of Athena.
And after all that excitement and wonder, the best way to calm down and truly immerse yourself in Turkish culture is the baths where you can experience a massage or other relaxing treatments in order to rejuvenate yourself. Overall, Altinkum is undeniably a great place for families, friends and couples to visit as it has something to offer for everyone.
