Ortakent
Ortakent is about as relaxed as any Turkish coastal town can be, with a surprising two kilometre golden sand beach which has been awarded a blue flag award for cleanliness. When lazing on the beach, remember to gather a handful of the sand and watch as the finest powder sifts through your fingers and you will realise why so many people claim that Ortakent beach is one of the finest in all of Bodrum.
There’s no need for sandals here, unless the sun is at its highest and hottest, because the sand is so soft you won’t want to do anything but feel it between your toes and the sea is just the same. There’s something magical about being able to run into sun warmed sea from a perfect sandy beach and Ortakent is the perfect place to do just that.
And when you’re all golden from the sun and dry after a refreshing swim, remember to grab a bite to eat from the local restaurants, most of which are coastally located with beautiful bay views out onto the Aegean. The heritage of fishing continues here, where the seafood is as fresh as possible, with fantastic variations on Turkish classics as well as some dishes that might be more familiar for the fussy eaters in your group.
When you find yourself wanting to do something other than enjoy the cuisine and play on the beach (if it ever does happen) make your way to Mustafa Pasa, one of thirteen original tower houses that are scattered around the local countryside to get some great photos or head towards the plentiful fruit groves where you can find round fresh figs as well as a sweet citrus zest from mandarins.
No matter your expectations from a trip abroad, Ortakent aims to please by relaxing and calming visitors thoroughly.
