Welcome to North Cyprus! You’ll be met at the airport by your representative and transferred to the hotel, where you can get settled in to your new surroundings and rested up for an exciting week of excursions ahead!
To get things started we’ll meet in the morning to discuss what’s in store. We’ll then head first to Kyrenia town, where a visit to the enchanting Harbour is a must! After browsing the shops and taking in the bustle of the town centre we’ll go to Bellapais. Bellapais village is a beautiful and picturesque place, famous for its Abbey, which gives the area a poetic and gothic look. Have some coffee with some lunch and explore the handicrafts, just taking time out and relaxing.
Return to the hotel.
Today is packed with historical sites, though we’ll be taking a leisurely pace to explore these! It’s an early start but we’re heading straight to St. Hilarion Castle, which should wake you up with mystical presence and spectacular views over Kyrenia and the Pentadaktylos mountain range.
After this is a visit to Bellapais Village, where we can admire the beautiful abbey and relax in the surrounding gardens. After taking some time here we’ll drive back to Kyrenia for some lunch at the historically charmed harbour. Once feeling re-energized it’s the Kyrenia castle we venture to next! There’s some fascinating stuff here, with a museum, Lusignans Dungeon, Bronze Age tombs, the North East tower and most famously, the world’s oldest shipwreck.
After this the tours for the day are over.
It’s a morning start with a visit to the monument of the burnt out tank from 1974. This sits at a height of 750 metres. After this we take route through a scenic footpath that leads up to the mountains, where there’s a restaurant perfect for offering a pick me up after all that walking! You’ll also be surrounded by views of the Mediterranean Sea and Kyrenia city.
After relaxing here we carry on to the village of Lapta, taking in the peaceful surroundings.
Return to hotel.
Morning meet ready for a jam packed day of Fascinating Famagusta history! First we visit perhaps the most famous of Famagusta’s sites, with a trip to the ancient Salamis ruins, where the amphitheatre and St Barnabas’ birth place are of particular interest! After this we’ll have a bite to eat and continue on to the Monastery of St Barnabas along with the old walled town of Famagusta.
As afternoon sets in, we’ll visit the Open Air Museum, Othello’s Tower, St. Nicholas Cathedral, The Venetian Palace, and a short visit to the city of Marash later on.
Return to the hotel for dinner.
We meet in the morning and head to Buffavento Castle. It is the highest of all the Crusader castles in North Cyprus, holding its peak at a boastful altitude of 954 metres. It takes 700 steps to climb, where you can then be greeted with the castles enchanting ruins, looking in rooms and visiting the cistern chapel.
Buffavento was built in Byzantine times, and once used as the king’s hideout from Richard Lionheart. Nowadays it’s an extremely peaceful and beautiful spot, with many awe-inspiring views and the ideal location for having some lunch in, which we do next.
We then continue on through the village of Tashkent, climbing a mountain, taking in some of North Cyprus’ finest scenery, and then eventually reaching Bellapais.
Return to the hotel in time for dinner.
Today’s tour is another optional one. If you decide you would like to take part, then we meet in the morning and drive to Nicosia, which is the world’s last divided capital and a place brimming with historical culture! Whilst here we’ll visit the Bandabulya bazaar of the Ottomans, St. Sophia Cathedral, which is now Selimiye Mosque, and the Great Inn, which was once a 17h century hotel. We’ll also stop by the Museum of Whirling Dervishes.
After all this we’ll have some lunch accompanied by the ancient wall. You’ll then have some spare time to just spend doing whatever you like; perhaps browsing the shops and getting a feel for the area.
Return to the hotel in the early evening.
Unfortunately today is where the tour ends! Hopefully you’ve had a good time. After some breakfast you’ll be transferred to the airport in time for your flight.
