Upon arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport, you’ll be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel by comfortable air-conditioned vehicle.
You’ll be collected from your hotel after breakfast for your half-day heritage tour. If you prefer, this tour can also take place in the afternoon. Your first stop is the Royal Grand Palace; a site at the top of Bangkok’s ‘must-see’ list. The palace is home to the famous Emerald Buddha, which is made entirely from jade and is the most revered Buddha in all of South East Asia. Other stunning attractions in the palace include the magnificent throne rooms. From the palace, we continue to Wat Pho; Bangkok’s oldest temple and home to the massive 45 metre long golden reclining Buddha. Wat Pho was also the first school of traditional medicine and Thai massage. Please be advised that appropriate attire is required to visit historic sites. All visitors must have their shoulders and knees covered.
You’ll then take a break from your tour to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, a private long-tail boat will take you to Klong Bang Luang. En route, your guide will point out and explain interesting sites and landmarks. On the stunning boat ride, you’ll also see a host of local temples, shop-houses and impressive homes owned by aristocrats. The boat stops at Baan Silapin, a historic house which has been converted into a stunning art gallery. On your two hour stop, you can browse the gallery, take part in an art workshop or explore the village. Next, you’ll enjoy a unique puppet show, performed by puppeteers trained at the Joe Louis School of Puppetry before we make our way back to the city via the stunning Temple of Dawn. Wat Arun, as it’s locally known, was built to represent Mount Meru and is one of the most striking landmarks in Thailand.
Please note that the puppet show does not take place on Wednesdays, and we cannot guarantee the show due to possible last-minute cancellations.
Breakfast and lucnh is included. You will stay overnight in Bangkok.
You will be collected from your hotel after breakfast and driven north to the Ayutthaya Historical Park. Here, we’ll tour three of the most significant temple ruins before continuing to the Summer Palace at Bang Pa. The beautiful palace, which was built by King Rama IV in the 17th century, sits exquisitely on the water’s edge of the Chaopraya River. You will then board the luxurious air-conditioned Grand Pearl cruiser for a buffet lunch as you cruise down the Chaopraya River, enjoying the views. You will arrive back in Bangkok in the late afternoon.
Breakfast and lunch is included. You will stay overnight in Bangkok.
After breakfast, you’ll be collected for your day of touring, which begins at the Jim Thompson House on a canal in the centre of the city. The stunning teak mansion once belonged to Jim Thompson, a charismatic American silk merchant who mysteriously vanished in 1967. You’ll tour his elaborate home, learning about his life, his effects on the silk trade, and see the vast collection of priceless antiques he amassed during his life.
After the tour, you’ll cross the canal into the Cham Muslim village of Baan Krua, where Jim Thompson’s artisans lived. Many of the original families still live here, and will tell you about their history and their traditions. The community still weave silk, and you can visit their local silk shop and purchase an exquisite souvenir.
After enjoying lunch, you’ll be taken on a leisurely long-tailed boat trip to the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, where you can explore the stunning mansions in the peace of the afternoon. Our last stop for the day is Wat NiwetThammaprawat, a unique Buddhist temple in the neo-gothic style, with richly decorated stained-glass windows.
