19 May is Atatürk Commemoration, Youth and Sports Day in North Cyprus and Turkey. A national public holiday it is a time of celebration and rememberance of Ataturk’s existence and achievement.

During the his term as president, Ataturk himself announced May 19 as
Youth and Sports Day. After Ataturk’s legacy, the day
now honour’s the country’s founder.

All administration buildings, post offices, schools, and most businesses are closed on this day.

Its a great time to be in North Cyprus on this day. You will see many parades and displays of youth and symbolic marches in Kyrenia, Famagusta and Nicosia. Enjoy the entertainemnt with the colourful displays and proud people.
