Turkey has announced that they will be piping water to north Cyprus within a few years.
The project has started in 2011 and is expected to carry on through 2012, 2013 and finish in the middle of summer 2014.
The foundations stones have been laid by Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan yesterday and the project has begun to link turkey and North Cyprus underground through the Mediterranean Sea.
The fresh water pipe will start from Alakopru Dam and pump itself to North Cyprus.  It will be over 120 meters below the ground and over 80km in length.
The supply of 75 million m² of water annually to Turkish Cyprus. This will mean that the beautiful island of Cyprus will be even more green than it is, and will take away some of the pressure of the Mediterranean dryness of the weather for the local people. The locals of North Cyprus are predominately in business in Agriculture and tourism. Both of these sectors will benefit and wit will bring great level of natural development to the area.
