More than 400 have taken part in the 6th North Cyprus Orchid Walk organized jointly by the Pro Cancer Research Fund (PCRF) and the Cancer Research Foundation. Walkers included a 22-member group from the United Kingdom and foreigners living in North Cyprus.
The long walk started from Kozankoy Mehmet Boransel Primary School at 10am and ended at Karskiyaka Primary School. The chairman of the UK-based Pro Cancer Research Fund Mustafa Camgoz told BRT that the aim of the walk was to raise awareness about cancer and funds for the projects to be realized by the two organizations.Mr Camgoz – who is a professor of cancer biology at Imperial College in London – reminded that a report was published on the results of a study of statistical information carried out in coordination with the Eastern Mediterranean University’s Department of Mathematics on the number of cancer cases reported between 1990 and 2004 in .
He noted that a joint project has been prepared by the family of Omer Anil – who lost his life to cancer – and the Cancer Research Foundation to fund students from North Cyprus to study at Imperial College.
