Upon arrival at the airport in Luang Prabang, you’ll be met by your driver and transferred to your hotel to check in. The day is then yours to relax and settle in.
After breakfast, your full-day tour of magical Luang Prabang begins. Your first stop is the Royal Palace Museum, where you’ll find the famous gold-alloy Buddha Pha Bang, which the city is named after. Next, you’ll enjoy a visit to Wat Xieng Thong, a magnificent Buddhist temple with its sweeping roofs classic of the local Laotian architecture. It is one of just two temples to have survived an invasion in 1887. We then depart for the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre to learn about the fascinating ethnic diversity of the country. The tour will then take you out of Luang Prabang to Ban Xieng Khong and Ban Xieng Lek, villages famous for producing beautiful silk. Your day isn’t over though, and we make our way back to the city to Wat Mai, Luang Prabang’s biggest and most beautifully decorated temple. Although you’ll have to tear yourself away, it will be worthwhile, since we’re climbing Mount Phousi, the Sacred Hill, which is both the geographical and spiritual centre of the city, where you can enjoy an unsurpassed view of the sunset over the Mekong River. Our last stop for the day is Luang Prabang’s famous Night Market, where you can find amazing textiles handmade by Hill Tribe people. You will stay overnight in Luang Prabang.
After breakfast, you’ll set off for a cruise up the Mekong, where you’ll be spoilt with beautiful views of the countryside en route to the Pak Ou Caves, which are carved strikingly into the limestone cliffs and filled with hundreds of golden Buddha statues. Your next stop is the village of Ban Xang Hai, also known as ‘the Whisky Village’ where you’ll get a glimpse of how they make lao-Lao. Lao-Lao is the most favoured rice whisky in Laos, and is also used in blessing ceremonies. We then cruise back a way and we stop at some riverside villages where you’ll see the traditional Laos way of life still very much intact. From there, a short drive takes you to Ban Phanom, a village so famous for its stunning hand-woven cotton and silk, that was the choice fabric of the Laos Royal Family. In the afternoon, your tour will take you to three villages, which are home to different ethnic minorities in Laos – the Laoloum, Khmu and Hmong. After a full day of exploring, you can enjoy a visit to the stunning Khuang Si Waterfall for a swim; a beautiful three-tier waterfall and turquoise pool hidden in the jungle. You will stay overnight in Luang Prabang.
Your last day begins with breakfast before a driver transfers you to the airport to begin your journey home.
