You’ll enjoy fantastic views from your Tuk Tuk journey, which takes you to the ancient temples and magnificent ruins of the historical park. There will be time to visit the Muslim sector and taste one of their most unique delicacies - a candy floss roti. The day starts bright and early when you depart from your hotel with a pre-packed breakfast at 6:00am and drive to the foothills of Doi Suthep Mountain in time to purchase offerings so you can join local residents for the monks’ daily alms-giving procession. The ceremony is deeply traditional and serene, and involves a procession of Buddhist monks walking saffron-clad and barefoot through the streets collecting gifts of food and necessities from the faithful. Your tour then continues up the mountains to Wat Doi Suthep, where you will climb the Golden Naga Staircase’s 309 steps to the golden pagodas of one of Chaing Mai’s best kept secrets – the Temple below the Temple; the jungle temple of Wat Palad. The beautiful Wat Palad holds great significance in Chiang Mai’s history.

We then proceed to the 14th century Wat Umong, set deep within the forest. The temple, which has been semi-reclaimed by the forest, is covered with moss and plants, giving it a richness that you will not have experienced at other temples on your journey. You can walk through its secretive tunnel system until you reach the temple’s Viharn, where your private blessing ceremony will take place.

We will then stop for lunch, where you can enjoy some delicious Khao Soy, a combination of crispy noodles, coconut cream and delicious spices, a dish which northern Thailand is famous for.

Your next stop is the Three Kings Monument before the Chiang Mai Arts and Culture Centre, housed in an elegant old building dating back almost 100 years. The building used to be the Royal Hall in the time of Siam, before becoming Chiang Mai’s Provincial Hall. Please be advised that the Centre is closed every Monday and during the Songkran Festival.
