After we pick you up from the airport and drop you to your hotel, this day is free to enjoy. This will be your first night in Istanbul.
Enjoy your first scrumptious breakfast in Istanbul on Sunday morning. Then its time to get your walking shoes on as we will embark on a journey that takes you right back in time. This city has some of the most extraordinary sites in the world such as the Sultanahmet Camii (in Turkish) or otherwise well known as the Blue Mosque that dates back to the 1600’s. Following this, you will see the Hagia Sophia which was once a church, later a mosque and now a museum that dates back to both Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. No visit to Istanbul is complete without seeing the palace of Topkapi dating back to 1400s and built by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror. Lastly, you will see the Hippodrome of Constantinople, which was once a major sporting and social centre during the Byzantine time for over a 1000 years. If you’re not too tired, why not end the day on a high with a Bosphorous cruise, exploring both the Asian and European shores (this is an optional extra, please speak to your guide locally should you wish to participate). Tonight will be your second night in Istabul.
Day 3 of the tour starts early and departs for the Peninsula of Gallipoli, scene of a number of hard-fought battles that took place during World War 2. Points of interest include Johnston's Jolly Cemetery, the Lone Pine, ANZAC Cove, the Bair memorials, Gallipoli Museum, as well as the various tunnels and trenches that still survive to this day. Guests spend the third evening of their tour in the coastal town of Çanakkale. On this day, you will have enjoyed your breakfast in Istanbul, and the evening meal will be in Canakkale.
The first excursion on day 4 is to the archaeological remains of the ancient city of Troy. From there the tour moves on to Pergamum Acropolis and the structures that still remain – such as the Library of Pergamum and various temple ruins. The evening is spent in the coastal town of Kusadasi, where there’s plenty of opportunity to explore the cosmopolitan town in the evening. On this day your breakfast and evening meal will be included, and you will spend your second night in Kusadasi.
Today is a special day as you will be truly mesmerised how far we take you back in history. Get lost with your tour guide, in the ancient city of Ephesus and visit the Artemis Temple, once considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. From here your journey will follow through the various zones including the Great Theatre on Panayir Hill, and observe the remaining relics of almost 150 years of excavation. We will then continue to the old Orthodox village of Sirince, renowned for his charming authentic setting on top of the mountains amongst imposing wine yards and peach trees. A few must do’s: try or buy some of the locally made fruit wines, buy some hand-made olive oil soap, and try some of the best made olives in Turkey! Today the tour will conclude with a long standing tradition in Turkey, where you will see first hand how carpets are made and how they are valued. Today your breakfast and evening meal is included and you will spend your third evening in Kusadasi resort.
After breakfast, the tour pauses to inspect some locally mand-made leather products, before moving on again to marvel over the travertines of Pamukkale: terraced pools formed from carbonated mineral deposits.
