  1. History

Malta is an island with a turbulent history, which goes back around 7,000 years. There are plenty of beautiful buildings to visit which can help you to understand the country’s heritage. Take a walk around Mdina Old City, spend some time reflecting in the Malta at War Museum, explore the Mnajdra Temples and marvel at St John’s Co-Cathedral, built by the Knights of Malta in the 16th Century.

Malta has 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites – The City of Valletta, the Megalithic Temples of Malta and the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum. So if it’s culture you’re after, you certainly won’t be short of things to do here.

  1. Nightlife

Malta’s nightlife is always bustling, with lots of clubs, wine bars and restaurants to visit. It is mainly centred around Paceville and St Julian’s, where you’ll find discos, lounge bars and casinos all around you. This is a relatively inexpensive place to party, with drinks costing around €2 for a beer, and €6 for a cocktail.

Music festivals are also held throughout the year, including the Malta Arts Festival, the Opera Festival, and the International Jazz Festival in July. During the summer you can enjoy music concerts by some of the biggest international artists, which are always a hit with both tourists and locals.

Throughout the year, internationally renowned DJs also visit Malta to give guest appearances in the island’s clubs. Recently this has included big names like David Guetta, Tiesto and Avicii.

  1. Beaches

Malta has a great range of beaches, which offer something for everyone. Whether you want to windsurf or sunbathe, there’s a place to do it here. You can find blue lagoons, family-friendly golden beaches and rocky shores. As the weather is so good in Malta, you can hang out on the beaches well into October, making it perfect for a late autumn break.

If you’re after a more secluded spot, try asking the locals which beaches haven’t been discovered by tourists yet. You might find a gem!
