Queens Beach, Nin

Queens Beach, Nin can be found about 9 miles outside of Zadar and is well worth the journey – being aptly named as fit for any queen. Stretching out into the horizon Nin is the perfect representation of paradise and Queens Beach is truly a sight to see.

Equipped with nothing but tranquil beach bars, Queens Beach is the perfect destination for an afternoons meditating in the sun. Offering awe inspiring views of the Velebit Mountains and natural beauty all around, along with the soothing sounds of the ocean, you may find yourself unable to do anything else in this calming setting.

Kupari Beach

Kupari, on the other hand, is much less civilised, but no less charming. Slightly south of Dubrovnik, Kupari has been allowed to run wild – ever since it was almost destroyed during the Croatian War of Independence.

Adding to this doomsday effect are the now dilapidated hotels; still keeping watch over their apocalyptic beach, which remains one of the most striking on earth. The beach itself offers both shingle and sand all set to the back drop of derelict buildings and picturesque ruins.

This ghost town may look appealing, but with Croatian health and safety being somewhat more lax than our own, it’s best advised not to go a-wandering. Whatever you do though, don’t visit Kupari without your camera – the photo opportunities are not to be missed!

Spiaza Beach

Spiaza Beach is a desert island dream – being made up of nothing other than sand and a few sparse areas of greenery. You’ll need to jump on the ferry from Mali Losini to reach Spiaza beach but any traveller worth their salt won’t be dissuaded by this small detail!

Once reached Spiaza presents itself as a perfect stretch of silver backed sand continuing all the way to Susak village. With a shallow bay and some of the softest sand around this is a great beach for all the family. A beach where children can splash in the shallow bay, as parents enjoy the luxury of a warm ocean current further out to sea – when they get the chance that is!

Uvala Dubovica Beach

Further still, along the eastern coast, you’ll find Uvala Dubovia – which is mainly made up of pebbles. The real draw here is the historic manor house which has presided over Uvala Dubovia beach for decades.

This is another great beach for young children where paddling is concerned, and parents can take in the beautiful contrast of natural beauty against the backdrop of the impressive manor house. At certain times in the season this is also a well-known spot for yachts and other small vessels, so if you are thinking of taking the kids, check this out before embarking on your journey.

Grebisce Beach

To be found just 2 miles east of Jelsa – another great Croatian paddling paradise is Grebisce Beach. To reach this beach you’ll need to hike through the Grebisce campsite – or stay there! You can also grab drinks and snacks from the beach café located here, so it’s worth scoping out when you do pass the campsite.

Sun worshippers will adore this place – which makes very few allowances to shade, but those of fairer skin should go prepared with a strong sun screen. This beach also fills up fast thanks to its popularity with young people, families and retired couples alike all enjoying basking in the Croatian sunshine.
